About us
Care and Repair Edinburgh is an independent charity offering advice and assistance to people who are older and/or have disabilities. We offer a range of practical services to help people repair, improve or adapt their homes so that they may remain in their own homes in comfort and independence for as long as possible. We have over 25 years of experience in helping clients and have knowledgeable and skilled staff, volunteers and trades contractors on our Trades list who will assist with practical issues.
The first Care and Repair projects in Scotland were established by Age Concern in Edinburgh, in Tollcross in 1985, in Leith in 1987 and in the Western Isles in 1986. Subsequently the Care and Repair Initiative (Scotland) was launched in 1987 by the Scottish Office Environment Department, Shelter and Age Concern (Scotland) to meet the needs of elderly and disabled people living in private housing which was in poor repair or below a tolerable standard. This resulted in an initial eight local projects throughout Scotland. This has now grown to 37 local Care and Repair offices throughout the whole of Scotland.
Care and Repair Scotland is the national co-ordinating body whose overarching aim is to ensure that the Care and Repair movement is sustainable for the future and able to develop its role helping older and disabled homeowners.
Care and Repair Edinburgh Ltd is a Scottish charity, a company limited by guarantee, and governed by a board of Directors who give their time voluntarily. There are six paid staff and around 40 volunteers, headed by the Care and Repair CEO Debbie Robertson.
